About a month ago, I made an audio recording of my 2003 book, Becoming Jefferson’s People: Re-Inventing the American Republic in the Twenty-First Century. In four sessions at Makoche Recording Studios in Bismarck, ND, I read the entire text.
Now it is ready, together with the new eBook edition of Becoming Jefferson’s People.
I hadn’t read the book in years, perhaps not really even since I published it. But in reading it again for this project, I realized that it does two things. First, it succinctly encapsulates my understanding of what Jefferson’s brand of Enlightenment meant, publicly and privately. Second, I think it is a useful template for what reclaiming our broken public life would require, and a useful template for anyone who wishes to live a more Jeffersonian life.
